SAN JOSE -- A stolen dog-grooming truck riding on three wheels plowed into a South San Jose smoke shop early Monday, and police are blaming drunken joy riders who remain at large.

In a caper that evoked thoughts of the 1994 comedy "Dumb and Dumber" -- which featured a truck fashioned to resemble a sheepdog -- a large mobile dog-grooming truck was reportedly stolen at about 2 a.m., around the time neighbors of the owner heard beeps indicating the truck was going in reverse, police said.

The owner drove around looking for the truck, which was found about 6:30 a.m. crashed into Up In Smoke, a smoke shop in the 1700 block of Branham Lane.

Prior to the crash, the grooming truck was seen driving on three tires, with sparks shooting onto the street from the one exposed wheel. Witnesses told police that as soon as the truck crashed into the smoke shop, causing extensive damage, the occupants ran away.

Officers examining the truck found a number of alcoholic containers inside, police said.

No injuries were reported, and as of Monday afternoon it was not clear who was responsible for the theft.
