OAKLAND -- A man who faces multiple felony charges in connection with the slayings of two teenage girls in Oakland will return to court next month for a preliminary examination.

Antonio Edwards, who turned 20 on Saturday, will appear Feb. 1 at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.

Edwards is charged with being an accessory for allegedly driving accused gunman Diantay Powell, 18, away from the 2600 block of Minna Avenue, near Brookdale Avenue, where Raquel Gerstel and Bobbie Sartain were slain Nov. 25.

Both Gerstel, 15, and Sartain, 16, were shot multiple times.

Bail for Edwards has been set at $80,000, while Powell is being held without bail, records at Santa Rita Jail show. Both men are from Oakland.

Powell is charged with two counts of murder, with a special-circumstance allegation of committing multiple murders. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive for the slayings.

Hearings for both men took place Monday.
