The California Music Educators Association Jazz East Festival at Northgate High School's Jack DeRieux Little Theater takes place over the weekend of Jan. 18-19, from 3 to 10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Thirty school bands from the area will hit the stage; they include units from Oakland Tech High School, Green Valley Middle school, Walnut Creek Intermediate School, Foothill Middle School and Northgate High Jazz Band II.

Everyone is welcome; all performances are free, and concessions are available. More information is available by going to www.northgatehsjazzfestival.com
