MORGAN HILL -- A parolee found in possession of a hot iPad equipped with a geographical locator feature probably wishes there wasn't an app for that.
According to Morgan Hill police, a San Jose man's home was broken into Monday and electronic gear stolen, including an Apple iPad activated with a Global Positioning System feature that can track the device. Police verified that it was at an address on San Tomas Lane, where an occupant of the home, Alfredo Maldonado Jr., 33, was on parole for drug violations.
Officers went to the home conduct a compliance check and search, and in Maldonado's bedroom, they found numerous electronic items that were stolen from the San Jose home, including the iPad that was running the "Find My iPad" feature. More than $7,000 worth of property was returned to the victim, and officers also confiscated additional items reported stolen from other people.
Morgan Hill and San Jose police will be conducting a joint investigation into how Maldonado came to acquire the other goods.
Maldonado was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on multiple counts of possessing stolen property and violating parole.
