Know someone who's been a mainstay on the Lafayette or Orinda civic scene, who has worked tirelessly to make their city a better place to live? Or maybe you know someone who has toiled behind the scenes for a long time, effecting positive change under the radar. Is this the time for that person to shine?
Nominations are now being sought for consideration for both the 2013 Lafayette Citizen of the Year and for Orinda's 2013 Citizen of the Year.
Nominees for the Lafayette award must be current residents of that city who have given their time, money or energy to help make Lafayette a healthy community, where people will want to live, work and shop, and whose work helps bring the community together.
A celebration dinner will be held Friday, March 22 at the Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa to honor the winner. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, Feb. 15; they can be sent to Sam Richards at the Lamorinda Sun at firstname.lastname@example.org, or to Jay Lifson at the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce at email@example.com
The Lafayette award is sponsored by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the Lamorinda Sun. The 2011 winner was Gayle Uilkema, the longtime Contra Costa County supervisor who died in May.

Nominations for the Orinda Citizen of the Year award must reach the Sun no later than Wednesday, Feb. 20.
The dinner honoring the chosen Orinda citizen will be held Friday, March 15 at the Orinda Community Center. The award is sponsored by The Rotary Club of Orinda and the Lamorinda Sun. The winner will succeed Richard Westin, the 2012 honoree.
