Nominations are now being sought for consideration for both the 2013 Lafayette Citizen of the Year and for Orinda's 2013 Citizen of the Year.
Nominees for the Lafayette award -- due by the end of today -- must be current residents of that city who have given their time, money or energy to help make Lafayette a healthy community, where people will want to live, work and shop, and whose work helps bring the community together.
A celebration dinner will be held Friday, March 22 at the Lafayette Park Hotel and Spa to honor the winner. Nominations can be sent to Sam Richards at the Lamorinda Sun at email@example.com, or to Jay Lifson at the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce at firstname.lastname@example.org
The Lafayette award is sponsored by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and the Lamorinda Sun. The 2011 winner was Gayle Uilkema, the longtime Contra Costa County supervisor who died in May.
Those nominated for the Orinda honor must be Orinda citizens who have contributed significantly to the local or greater community -- that is, if their contribution to the world outside Orinda was significant, that person would warrant consideration. Sitting politicians are not eligible.
Nominations for the Orinda Citizen of the Year award must reach the Sun no later than Wednesday, Feb. 20.
