Help students play ball, run track and swim at Mt. Diablo district high schools by taking a walk or run Saturday.
The annual 5K Competitive Run and the Fun Run/Walk to help save sports in Mt. Diablo district high schools, will take place Oct. 13, beginning at Newhall Park with the finish at Turtle Creek in Concord.
The proceeds will fund athletics in the district's six area high schools for the 2013-2014 school season. All ages are welcome.
There will be a timed competitive 5K run starting at 9 a.m., as well as fun run/walk at 9:45 a.m.
Medals and prizes will be awarded for various age groups. The school with the most sign-ups will be presented with a trophy to display for a year.
Registration is $25 per runner, $30 the day of the event. All participants that obtain $50 or more in sponsorships do not have to pay a registration fee.
Parking is available at Clayton Valley Charter School, 1101 Alberta Way, Concord.

Nominations will be open through the fall for Helen Diller Family Foundation Teen Tikkun Olam Awards, identifying Jewish teens whose volunteer service projects demonstrate a determined commitment to make the world a better place.
Up to 10 teens from across the country, including five from California, will each receive an award of $36,000 to be used to further their philanthropic work or their education.
Teens must be U.S. residents, ages 13-19 and self-identify as Jewish. They may nominate themselves, or be nominated by teachers, community leaders, rabbis, but not by family members.
Grace Cooperative Preschool will host a free parent workshop, featuring speaker Meg Zweiback, from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 7, at 2100 Tice Valley Blvd., Walnut Creek.
Zweiback is a pediatric nurse practitioner, family counselor and coach whose work appears regularly in the Parents' Press. She will speak about ways to help children build resilience.
