WALNUT CREEK -- The Walnut Creek Education Foundation is taking part in Giving Tuesday, a movement to create a national day of giving on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" in support of nonprofit agencies.
This is the second annual #GivingTuesday, as it is formally known, and the first year WCEF is taking part as a recipient. WCEF is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c) (3) local education foundation that supports more than 5,000 students in the Walnut Creek School District, as well as students at Las Lomas High School, which is part of the Acalanes Union High School District.
Giving Tuesday specifically invites using social media to spread the word of the need for donating to the various recipient groups.
In the Walnut Creek district, donations could help pay for elementary school art, music and physical education classes, and expand access to libraries. Donations also could give teachers access to professional education coaches, reduce class sizes or give students better access to counselors.
