Five Carondelet High School students received Jefferson Awards for outstanding community service.

At a Nov. 26 ceremony, senior Nicole Garcia and sophomore Taylor Smallwood were recognized for continuous service; and senior Kaitlyn Pahler, junior Loren Couture and sophomore Shastina Wilson received the special project award.

  • Nicole volunteers at Kaiser Permanente and has expanded her efforts to knitting more than 200 hats for newborn and premature babies.

  • Taylor has been dedicated to providing freedom and confidence to the blind by training guide dog puppies for seven years.

  • Kaitlyn worked with the Counseling Department at Carondelet to educate students about sexual harassment and assault prevention.

  • Loren started "Gifts for Giggles" to provide Christmas gifts for children who otherwise would not receive them.

  • Shastina spent a week in Haiti helping build the foundation of a house for an unpaid schoolteacher, and took care of the children at the New Vision Orphanage.
