DLS denied in state title game

Quarterback Chris Williams, right, of the De La Salle High football team tries to elude a tackle by St. John Bosco's Chandler Hawkins during the first quarter of the CIF Open Division state championship football game at StubHub Center in Carson on Dec. 21. In a game between California's two best high school football teams, St. John Bosco prevailed 20-14, as the Spartans had their streak of four straight state Open Division titles halted. "Our kids played hard, I don't have any doubt about that," De La Salle coach Justin Alumbaugh said.
