Solid showing for Falcons

  • With victories over Redmond-Washington and Acalanes, the College Park High girls basketball team earned the right to play for the West Coast Jamboree Turquoise Division championship. The Falcons faced Rosemont of Sacramento, but results weren't available at press time. Kyla Miller made the biggest impact in the Falcons' 49-35 semifinal win over Acalanes, contributing 21 points, including three 3-pointers, and 10 rebounds.

    Cougars fall to top-ranked Mater Dei

  • The Carondelet High girls basketball team reached the Platinum Division semifinals at the West Coast Jamboree before losing 85-74 against Mater Dei-Santa Ana, one of the top-ranked teams in the country. MaKenzie Cast scored 26 points in the loss. Carondelet opened the tournament, which featured several highly-regarded squads from around the state and country, with a 85-60 win over Sacred Heart Cathedral-San Francisco. Natalie Romeo had 23 points and nine assists while Christina Chenault added 17 points and 10 rebounds.

    Eagles reach tournament final

  • The Clayton Valley Charter girls basketball team reached the Sapphire Division championship game at the West Coast Jamboree with wins over Montgomery-Santa Rosa and James Logan in its first two games of the tournament. Hailey Pascoe was the star of a 53-48 win over Logan in the semifinals on Dec. 29, scoring 26 points. Kayla Taylor scored a team-high 14 points in the 51-39 win over Montgomery in the first round. Results of the championship game against McClatchy-Sacramento weren't available at press time.

  • De La Salle at Doc Buchanan Invitational, wrestling, Jan. 2-4, 9 a.m. -- The Spartans travel to Clovis High to participate in one of the state's most prestigious wrestling tournaments.

  • Acalanes at Sonoma Classic, boys basketball, Jan. 3-4, times TBA -- The Dons tune up for the start of Diablo Foothill Athletic League play by heading to this tournament in the North Bay.

  • San Lorenzo at Northgate, boys soccer, Jan. 4, 4:30 p.m. -- The Broncos are back in action after the holiday break by hosting San Lorenzo of the WACC.

  • Campolindo at Dougherty Valley, boys basketball, Jan. 7, 5:30 p.m. -- The Cougars kick off Diablo Foothill Athletic League play against a Wildcats team that went 9-2 in its nonleague schedule.

  • Kyla Miller, College Park girls basketball -- Miller's double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) led the Falcons to a 49-35 win over Acalanes in the semifinals of the West Coast Jamboree's Turquoise Division.

  • Jon Allen, Clayton Valley Charter boys basketball -- Allen scored a team-high 13 points as the Eagles evened their record at 6-6 with a 47-35 nonleague win over Mt. Eden on Dec. 28.

  • Zak Gay, Northgate boys basketball -- Gay's 24 points led the Broncos to their second win of the season, 65-57, over McKinleyville in the opening round of the Windsor Holiday Shootout on Dec. 27.

  • Jared Ining, Las Lomas boys basketball -- Ining contributed 18 points as the Knights posted a 65-29 victory over Mt. Eden in a Dec. 27 nonleague game.

  • Jake Linares, Miramonte boys basketball -- The junior forward scored 22 points in a 69-58 victory over Lincoln-San Francisco on Dec. 28 to help the Matadors advance to the fifth place game of the Bambauer Classic at Marin Catholic High.
