OAKLEY -- The city will be buying software to make more documents available on its website.
Oakley City Council recently agreed to install ImageSilo, a program that will enable the public to view information already stored on city computers such as permits and signed agreements.
The idea is to reduce the amount of time employees spend on processing the public's requests for information as well as the cost of providing those documents in paper form.
The number of records requests has risen from 11 in 2001 to 69 last year, according to the staff report presented at last week's city council meeting.
Once the new system is working, people can access the records at any time.
Exactly what additional documents will appear on the city's website and whether their inclusion will mean that all public records in the city's possession then will be online was not specified in the staff report.
Installation and user training will be a one-time fee of $675. The city initially also will be spending about $640 per month for data storage, which runs $45 per gigabyte; as more documents are scanned and added to the existing archives, the cost will increase.
