The Contra Costa County Office of Education is seeking legal professionals to volunteer as judges and scorers for the annual Mock Trial program that takes place next month.

This year, students from 18 local high schools will participate in a mock murder trial during the academic event, which was created to help teens learn about the judicial system, develop analytical and communication skills, and better understand their responsibilities as citizens. Mock trial judges and attorneys score the students' performances and provide feedback.

Winners advance through seven competitive rounds, with the champion advancing to the state finals. Interested volunteers are invited to call 925-942-3429 or to visit www.cccoe.k12.ca.us/supe/events. Click on "Mock Trial Program."
