OAKLAND -- A 55-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal stabbing Tuesday morning of another man outside a West Oakland house, police said Wednesday.

Jessie James Taylor, who lived at the house in the 600 block of 31st Street where the stabbing happened, was arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of Francis Chuka Nwagbo, 35.

Police said the two men knew each other and investigators were trying to determine if Nwagbo also lived at the house.

The stabbing happened about 11 a.m. outside the house. Nwagbo, who was stabbed with a knife, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Oakland police Officer Jason Andersen said the men knew each other and had been in an ongoing dispute. He would not say what the dispute was about.

Andersen said police had been called to the house about 45 minutes before the stabbing to intervene in an argument the men were having and left when it was resolved.

Nwagbo left the house but came back and the dispute resumed before he was stabbed, police said.

Taylor fled the scene but was arrested a few blocks away.

He is being held without bail.
