Suspect in shooting and carjacking turns himself in

A suspect wanted for allegedly shooting and carjacking a man turned himself in to police, authorities said Saturday.

Kelvin Lemonte Starks, 20, was taken into police custody after he surrendered Friday.

Starks is a suspect in the robbery, shooting and carjacking of a man in the 4300 block of Ohio Avenue on Feb. 6, according to police.

Police have not yet located the tan 1985 Nissan Maxima taken in the robbery. The four-door sedan has a license plate of 1MKE402. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Richmond police Detective Jason Wentz at 510-621-1259.

OAKLAND

Man killed in crash after fleeing from police

A man was killed after fleeing from police during a traffic stop in East Oakland late Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 9:32 p.m., officers attempted to pull over a driver along San Leandro Street after the plates on the car he was driving came back stolen, according to the CHP. The driver, however, took off and both Oakland police and CHP officers followed.

But at 98th Avenue and San Leandro Street, the driver of the suspected stolen car crashed into another car traveling in the opposite direction, as well as a car with a person inside parked along the side of San Leandro Street, according to the CHP.

Both drivers that were struck sustained minor injuries.

The suspect driver was unresponsive as officers attempted to pull him out of the car, which had caught fire shortly after impact.

One officer sustained minor cuts in his efforts to pull the driver from the vehicle.

Paramedics declared the suspect driver dead at the scene.

His identity has not been released.

Three injured, one dies in early morning stabbing

One man was killed and two others wounded in a stabbing early Saturday, police said.

Police responding to 1082 B Street found the man in the rear parking lot suffering from a stab wound, according to police.

Medics were unable to revive him. The man's name has not yet been released.

Two other people later showed up to a hospital with stab wounds, police said.

Police are also investigating a car that was left abandoned after a crash on A Street at South Garden Avenue.

The case remains under investigation.

SAN FRANCISCO

Man dies after being struck by MUNI trolley

A man was killed after he was struck by a MUNI trolley Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Around 2:37 p.m., San Francisco police responded to calls of a pedestrian and MUNI trolley collision at Market and Powell streets.

When officers arrived, they found a male down on the tracks. Police said the man, who has not been identified, was struck by an outbound trolley.

Paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene. Police said the fatal collision may have resulted from the man falling off the platform in front of the trolley.

The Powell Street MUNI station was closed while police investigated. MUNI lines have been rerouted in the area.

EMMERYVILLE

One person injured in Interestate 80 crash

One person suffered major injuries in a crash along eastbound Interstate 80 Saturday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported around 4:14 p.m. near the Shellmound Street off-ramp.

It is unknown what caused the crash and the extent of injuries was not immediately available.
