Police say 36-year-old Chanetta Flanagan crashed her white Buick driving under the influence. The crash killed her boyfriend and seriously injured two girls, ages 3 and 5, sitting in the back seat.

RICHMOND -- One man was killed and three others including two children were injured late Thursday in a car crash believed to have involved alcohol, police said.

According to Richmond Lt. Andre Hill, around 11:45 p.m. a woman identified as 36-year-old Chanetta Flanagan was driving her white sedan south on San Pablo Avenue between Hilltop Drive and Stanton Avenue when she veered to the right and struck a tree.

The force of the collision crushed the roof of the car.

One of the passengers, Flanagan's 39-year-old boyfriend, Harold Mason Jr., was declared dead at the scene, Hill said.

Two girls, ages 3 and 5, were sitting in the back seat. The 3-year-old was in a car seat, but the 5-year-old was not, Hill added. Both were listed in critical condition at Children's Hospital Oakland with major injuries.

Hill said Friday that the 3-year-old's condition has been upgraded to stable, while the 5-year-old's condition has not changed.

Flanagan was also injured and was at an area hospital recovering Friday before being released into police custody.

Hill said alcohol was a factor in the crash and that charges against Flanagan are still being determined.
