ANTIOCH -- A 48-year-old man was arrested Friday night after fleeing from a car crash, police said.

Around 7:17 p.m., officers responded to A Street at West Third Street for a collision between two cars, said Antioch Sgt. Dimitri Barakos. When police arrived, they learned that a 48-year-old man -- whom police did not name pending further investigation -- crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic with his car and struck another vehicle.

The man continued driving and then struck a city light pole, which completely disabled his car, Barakos added. The driver then fled the scene on foot.

Paramedics provided medical help on scene to the people in the other car, but no one was seriously injured.

Officers later found the 48-year-old suspect at his home, where he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of a collision.

The man was taken to the County Jail in Martinez.
