OAKLAND -- A 24-year-old man shot to death Saturday night in East Oakland near Highland Hospital was identified by police Monday as Innocent Okoronkwo Jr.

Police said Okoronkwo was shot during a dispute by someone he knew but no arrests have been made yet.

The shooting happened about 8:35 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of 14th Avenue. Police said Okoronkwo got into a dispute a short time earlier at a house party in the 2700 block with the man he knew. Police have not identified the man or said what the dispute was over.

Okoronkwo and a 26-year-old friend of his saw the man later in the 2400 block of 14th Avenue. Okoronkwo got into another altercation with him that ended with him being fatally shot and his friend wounded in the shoulder.

The friend was treated and released at a hospital.

Police said they were told Okoronkwo worked as a loss prevention officer at different stores.
