MARTINEZ -- The jury in the murder trial of a Pittsburg man convicted of killing his roommate heard final arguments in the sanity phase of the proceedings Thursday afternoon, and will begin deliberations Monday.
Last week, in the guilty phase, the same jury found Abraham Duarte-Gonzalez, 22, guilty of second-degree murder in the Feb. 29, 2012, stabbing death of Marisol Flores in a residence on the 100 block of Viking Way in Pittsburg. The two were renting separate rooms there.
Duarte-Gonzalez, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, is pleading no contest by reason of insanity. A mental health expert testified for the defense earlier this week that Duarte-Gonzalez told her that he believed himself to be in imminent danger because Flores was performing witchcraft on him.
