THE STAT LINE: The 6-foot-6 Banford had 20 points, 20 rebounds and nine assists as the Cougars defeated Maria Carrillo 67-56 in the North Coast Section Division II quarterfinals. He had 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals in a 69-39 first-round victory over Windsor.

Nathan Cervantes

YEAR: Junior

WEIGHT CLASS: 132 pounds

THE STAT LINE: Cervantes earned his second section title in three seasons as he captured the 132-pound weight division at the NCS Championships. Cervantes won his first three NCS matches by pins, then earned a 4-0 win in the semifinals.

Lindsay Rood

SCHOOL: Monte Vista

SPORT: Soccer

YEAR: Junior

POSITION: Forward/midfielder

THE STAT LINE: Rood scored the winning goal and had an assist in the unbeaten Mustangs' 2-1 victory over rival San Ramon Valley in the NCS Division I championship game.

Erica Sotelo

SCHOOL: Albany

DIVISION: 131 pounds

THE STAT LINE: Sotelo won the California Interscholastic Federation state championship in the 131-pound division in dramatic fashion. Sotelo, the No. 4 seed, beat No. 1 seed Monica Samaniego of Miller-Fontana 5-3 in triple overtime in the semifinals before beating No. 3 Erika Mihalca of Casa Grande 7-0 in the final. Sotelo (39-4) finished the season with 33 pins, including two in the state championship tournament.

DEVON LYLE, Liberty, wrestling, Sr. -- Lyle claimed his first section title by capturing the 126-pound weight division at the NCS championships.

DAMARI MILSTEAD, Moreau Catholic, basketball, Fr. -- The guard scored a game-high 22 points in the Mariners' 76-53 victory over Willits in the NCS Division IV quarterfinals. He had 15 points in a 94-41 first-round win over Gateway-San Francisco.

GIRLS

ALYSSA HERNANDEZ, James Logan, wrestling, Jr. -- Hernandez won the CIF championships at 143 pounds with a first-round pin of Jessica Rodriguez of Lincoln-Stockton. Hernandez pinned all five of her opponents in the tournament.

SAMANTHA VANKOLL, Campolindo, soccer, Jr. -- The midfielder was dominant in the air, helping the No. 3-seeded Cougars beat No. 4 Las Lomas in a penalty kick shootout after a 1-1 draw in the NCS Division II championship game. She also played strongly in a semifinal win over Bishop O'Dowd, also in a shootout after a 1-1 tie.
