In response to Jessica Yadegaran's story, "Goodbye, Monsters," about childhood fears (March 2):
Your article caught my eye because it was something I can relate to. When I was younger, I had a phobia of witches and scary creatures. I would see them in movies, especially the Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz." Ever since I saw that movie ... I would have nightmares about it. ... It was hard for me to sleep because I would worry or think about the Wicked Witch whenever the lights were turned off in my room. ... I grew out of this phase, but I really liked what you had to say about kids and their fears.
In response to Richard Scheinin's review of San Francisco Symphony's performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 3 (March 1):
I had given up on Mahler a few years ago, but now I would like to revisit and consider his work again based on your review.
