PLEASANT HILL -- Christian, Muslim, Jewish and secular leaders, scholars and activists will discuss the ongoing tensions in the Middle East -- particularly those involving Palestine and Israel -- at a two-day conference, "Voices for Justice and Peace in the Holy Land," Friday and Saturday at Christ The King Catholic Church, 199 Brandon Road (at Gregory Lane) in Pleasant Hill.
Co-hosted by Northern California Friends of Sabeel and Christ The King Catholic Church, the keynote speaker is set to be the Rev. Graylan Scott Hagler, an African American pastor and activist devoted to human rights. Other planned speakers of note include Susan Abulhawa, a Palestinian-American writer and political commentator; Omar Barghouti, an independent Palestinian researcher and human rights activist; Dr. Lonnie Bristow, a medical doctor and friend and colleague of Dr. Martin Luther King; and Ilan Pappé, an Israeli historian and professor at the University of Exeter in England.
