WALNUT CREEK -- To help raise money to bring back instrumental music to fourth- and fifth-graders in the Mt. Diablo school district, a Northgate High student is hosting a Friday benefit concert.

Anna Waletzko, who plays clarinet and piano in Northgate's band programs, will present "Keeping the Beat: A Musical Fundraiser" at 7 p.m. Friday in the school's Little Theater at 425 Castle Rock Road in Walnut Creek as part of her senior project. The event will feature instrumental music groups from around the district and beyond.

"It will showcase the talent we have in our district," Waletzko said.

The cost is $4 for students, $5 for adults and $10 for families. All proceeds will be donated to the Mt. Diablo Music Education Foundation. More information is available by visiting www.mdmef.org. Click on "Keeping the Beat."
