"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" isn't the only comic-book adaptation headed to a theater near you in the coming months. Here are some others:

  • "The Amazing Spider-Man 2": The well-cast Alex Garfield and Emma Stone return for the sequel of Marc Webb's satisfying reboot. Also invited to the party this time out: Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan and Paul Giamatti. Opens May 2

  • "X-Men: Days of Future Past": On a high after the very good 2011 "X-Men: First Class," this new chapter sees Bryan Singer back in the director's chair and boasts a dream cast dealing with a time-shifting narrative. Opens May 23

  • "Guardians of the Galaxy": Chris Pratt (TV's "Parks and Recreation") buffs up to play a pilot teaming up with a slate of diverse characters in this production based on a Marvel series. Opens Aug. 1.

  • "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles": Before the TV shows, games, etc., the Turtles first emerged out of their shells in comic-book form. This live-action film version features Megan Fox and William Fichtner. Opens: Aug. 8

  • "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For": Forget the superheroes, this Frank Miller-Robert Rodriguez sequel aims to give us more black-and-white noir and violence. Based on Miller's cult favorite series, it tells four tales and stars familiar faces -- Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba and Bruce Willis to name a few -- along with some new ones: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Juno Temple and Lady Gaga, among others. Keep the kids at home. Opens Aug. 22
