office of the vice president
Marian Wynn, left, of Fairfield, smiles as Phyllis Gould, of Fairfax, gets a "big Biden hug" as promised during their meeting with Vice President Joe Biden on Monday at the White House. Wynn and Gould were among six "Rosie the Riveters" who worked at the Kaiser shipyards in Richmond during World War II and were invited by Biden to meet with him in Washington. Biden extended the invitation in a personal phone call in October after an extended letter-writing campaign of several years by Gould. The other Rosies who made the trip were Marian Sousa, of El Sobrante; Kay Morrison, of Fairfield; Priscilla Elder, of Pinole; and Agnes Moore, of Rossmoor.
