The spot: Vine Cinema and Alehouse, 1722 First St., Livermore; vinecinema.com.

The vibe: Film lovers in the Tri-Valley have been flocking to Vine Cinema since 1956 to catch their favorite flicks. In 2009, the theater underwent two monumental changes: It acquired a wine and beer license and made the switch to independent films. Today, with its nifty marquee and draft beer tower, it's a one-stop date night for hipsters to sip craft beers or Livermore wines (Wente, Concannon, Fenestra), snuggle on cozy couches, nibble on salads or burgers and catch the latest indie films without schlepping to Oakland or San Francisco. But they still offer classics nights.

For the couple who: Likes their movies with a twist.
