Two home runs by third baseman Alex Blandino gave the Stanford baseball team the lead it needed in beating Saint Mary's 6-2 on Wednesday at Louis Guisto Field.
Stanford (17-17) started rolling in the first inning as Blandino hit a three-run homer, putting the Cardinal in command.
Saint Mary's (13-27) chipped away in the second with an RBI single by Darian Ramage scoring DonAndre Clark. Stanford responded in the third though, with Blandino scoring on a wild pitch to make it 4-1 Cardinal.
Clark singled in the Gaels' second run in the fourth inning, but Blandino drove one to right field for a solo home run to make it 5-2 in the fifth. The Cardinal added one more run in the sixth.
Stanford reliever Marcus Brakeman worked a scoreless 52/3 innings to earn his first win of the season. He struck out the final six Gaels to secure the victory.
Wallace hit a two-run double to get the Bears on the board. Trzcinski recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts.
The Bears had 10 hits spread among seven players. Wallace finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs, and junior Cheyenne Cordes and freshman Kylie Reed went 2 for 4 with a run scored each.
Saint Mary's, which entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed, improved to 13-7 overall.
Danielle Flores and Jade Frampton beat Iveta Masarova and Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz 8-4 at No. 2 doubles for Saint Mary's first win. Jamie Pawid and Catherine Leduc finished off an 8-0 win over Francis Dean and Christiana Ferrari.
