HERCULES -- A plan for a residential subdivision on a 17.25-acre site once owned by Walmart is the subject of a Planning Commission hearing Monday.
In the mid-2000s, some former Hercules officials wooed Walmart to build a store on the so-called Parcel C, about midway between Interstate 80 and San Pablo Bay, only to reverse course in response to widespread public opposition.
Walmart eventually abandoned its plan and sold the property to the city.
Now Lewis Land Developers, doing business as LD Hercules Land LLC, wants to build 144 single-family detached houses on the site.
The Planning Commission will discuss a general plan amendment, zoning amendment and an environmental report as well as a tentative parcel map, a vesting tentative tract map, and a development agreement, among other aspects of the plan.
The commission will meet at 7 p.m. in the Hercules City Council chamber, 111 Civic Drive.
