The 2013-2014 season featured plenty of championships for Concord teams. Leading the way was the De La Salle High football team, which went 14-1 under new head coach Justin Alumbaugh. Running back John Velasco, pictured, had a productive season for the Spartans, who won North Coast Section Division I and Northern California Open Division titles before they lost to St. John Bosco-Bellflower in the state championship game. Velasco was also a key hitter for the Spartans' baseball team, which won the NCS Division I title in the spring. Natalie Romeo, upper right, had an MVP season for the Carondelet basketball team, which won East Bay Athletic League and NCS Division II titles. After the season, longtime coach Margaret Gartner announced her retirement. Clayton Valley Charter had one of the best girls basketball seasons in school history, also winning its league and reaching the NCS Division II final. The Eagles advanced as far as the NorCal semifinals.
