Merritt College sprinter Kemarley Brown and Diablo Valley College swimmer Allison Gargalikis have been named athletes of the year by the California Community College Athletic Association and the California Community College Sports Information Association.

Brown, a native of Jamaica, capped off his two-year Merritt career by winning his second state title in the 100 meters. His time of 9.93 seconds set the national community college record. Brown followed that performance by winning the state 200-meter title in 20.29.

Gargalikis, also a sophomore, was an All-American in nine events and set state records in winning the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke and the 50-yard butterfly at the state championships. She also helped DVC set records in winning the 200 and 400 relays at the meet.
