El Cerrito police log: Elder fraud report; driver flees during traffic stop; missing person turns up in jail

Friday, June 13 Warrant arrest -- Yolo County Jail advised a subject who was in custody on a felony El Cerrito arrest warrant was scheduled for release at midnight. An El Cerrito officer picked up and booked the subject into the Martinez Detention Facility. Missing Person -- Officers responded to a home in the 7200 block of A Street to investigate a missing-person report. An officer doing a follow-up investigation found the subject had been arrested in Berkeley for public intoxication. Disorderly Conduct -- A pedestrian was arrested for public intoxication during a police stop at San Pablo Avenue and Carlson Boulevard and taken to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Saturday, June 14 Warrant Arrest -- The driver of a vehicle in an traffic enforcement stop made while exiting on Potrero Avenue from Interstate 80 fled on foot over the fence onto South 56th Street near Cypress Avenue. Backup officers arrived and residents led officers to a suspect hiding in bushes in the front yard of a home in the 6200 block of Cypress. A Richmond man, 44 was taken into custody on a resisting arrest charge. He also had an outstanding narcotics warrant from Napa County. Hit and run -- Officers investigating a hit and run collision report found the suspect vehicle abandoned near the scene. A suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing. Stolen vehicle -- A Pontiac Grand Am was reported stolen overnight on Dylans Way. Fraud, elder abuse -- A resident in the 2100 block of Pinehurst Court reported she was phoned by someone pretending to be her grandson. A second call by someone who claimed to be a defense attorney said her grandson was in jail for a DUI collision and convinced her to purchase 24 gift cards worth $12,000 and provide the access codes over the phone to pay for his bail. DUI -- The driver in a traffic stop at San Pablo and Madison avenues was arrested for driving under the influence.
Sunday, June 15 Warrant arrest -- A Richmond woman, 36, who was the passenger in a traffic stop at Carlson Boulevard and Plumas Avenue at 11:39 a.m., was arrested "after she provided a false name in an attempt to avoid a warrant for her arrest for identity theft and forgery." Warrant arrest -- A bicycle patrol officer arrested a San Pablo man, 46, at 4:18 p.m. at Kearney Street and Conlon Avenue for an outstanding Contra Costa sheriff's warrant for a narcotics violation.
Monday, June 16 Burglary -- A home burglary and loss of $2,500 in property was reported in the 5900 Block of Fern Street. Entry was through an unsecure window. Warrant arrest -- A 22-year-old El Cerrito man was arrested for an outstanding warrant during a pedestrian stop in the 3400 block of Belmont Avenue. DUI -- Officers responded to the 5600 block of Ludwig Avenue on reports of a woman banging on the door to a house. They found a 22-year-old Richmond woman at the wheel of her vehicle and arrested her when they determined she was intoxicated.
Tuesday, June 17 Public intoxication -- Employees at Denny's at 2:45 a.m. reported a heavily intoxicated man who was refusing to leave the bathroom. When officers arrived the 36-year-old transient was walking out of the restaurant and was found to be heavily intoxicated. The subject, who was on probation with the condition that he abstain from alcohol use, was arrested. Forgery -- An Oakley man, 44, was arrested on suspicion of trying to pass a counterfeit check at the Citibank location inside the Lucky store at El Cerrito Plaza. Probation Violation -- A 36-year-old homeless man was arrested at 4:10 p.m. on the BART path at Blake Street on suspicion of violating his probation by possessing a crack pipe and being under the influence of alcohol.
Wednesday, June 18 Violation of court order -- A Richmond man, 24, was arrested during a traffic stop at 2:24 p.m. when it was determined that the woman in the car had a domestic violence restraining order that prohibited him from being in contact with her. Petty Theft -- A 21-year-old Oakland woman was under citizen's arrest at 670 El Cerrito Plaza on suspicion of shoplifting medication. Probation violation -- A 36-year-old transient man was taken into custody in front of Atlas Liquors at 6:28 p.m. because a condition of his probation is that he stay away from the store. Auto burglary -- A purse was reported stolen from the trunk of a car at El Cerrito Plaza around midnight. A window was smashed to get access to the trunk. Burglary, vehicle theft -- Police were called to CVS at El Cerrito Plaza at 4:58 p.m. to assist store security with a female shoplifting suspect. As officers arrived, store security was trying to detain a man suspected of stealing alcohol. The man first fled and attempted to get into the driver's seat of a Nissan, then decided to flee on foot. Officers caught up with and arrested the 44-year-old Richmond man.
Thursday, June 19 Drug paraphernalia -- A 32-year-old homeless man was found with suspected drug paraphernalia during a pedestrian stop at 10:26 a.m. at 11965 San Pablo Ave. and cited. Public intoxication -- A 49-year-old homeless man was arrested at 11:42 a.m. at Fairmount Avenue at Kearney Street for causing a disturbance and being too intoxicated to care for himself DUI -- An officer saw a vehicle driving with a flat tire at 3:06 a.m. in the 10800 block of San Pablo Avenue, then quickly accelerate and proceed "in the opposing lanes of traffic before driving up and over the raised concrete median." The 25-year-old Albany man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
