Former Oakland High star Jabari Brown, who went undrafted Thursday, confirmed that he'll play for the Houston Rockets' NBA Summer League team in Orlando, Florida.

Brown led the SEC in scoring last season -- averaging 19.9 points per game as a junior at Missouri.

  • Cal sophomore guard Jabari Bird was invited to the Kevin Durant Skills Academy, a three-day event that began Friday in Washington. The academy consists of five workouts run by Durant, this past season's NBA Most Valuable Player.

  • The Gaels All-Star Classic, part of Saint Mary's Alumni Weekend, will tip off Sunday at 6 p.m. at McKeon Pavilion. At halftime, a 3-point contest will take place featuring Matthew Dellavedova, Stephen Holt, Daniel Kickert, Paul Marigney, Mickey McConnell and David Sivulich.

    Former Cal star Brandon Hagy lost to Europe's James Ross 3 and 2 on the final day of the Palmer Cup at Walton Heath Golf Club. Team Europe won eight of 10 singles matches for a 18.5-11.5 victory over Team USA in Walton-on-the-Hill, England. Hagy, playing in his final amateur match, will make his pro debut at the Web.com Tour's Nova Scotia Open on July 3-6. He went 1-3 in the three-day Ryder Cup-style event. Team USA was coached by Cal's Steve Desimone.

    Brittney Reese won the women's long jump at 22 feet, 81/2 inches, while Cal's Malaina Payton was 11th at 19-61/4 at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in Sacramento. Aisling Cuffe was fourth and Stanford teammate Jessica Tonn ninth in the women's 5,000 meters Friday night. Cuffe finished in 15 minutes, 13.15 seconds, and Tonn ran a 15:48.31. Molly Huddle won in 15:01.56.

    Horse racing

    Long shot Tribal Gal, under jockey Ricardo Gonzalez, took the lead in the opening quarter en route to a 31/4-length win in the $100,000 Oak Tree Distaff at the Alameda County Fair. Tribal Gal, trained by R. Kory Owens, ran six furlongs in 1:06.25 and paid $28 to win.
