CONCORD -- A motorist was critically injured Saturday evening in a suspected DUI crash on Highway 4 in Concord, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol responded just before midnight to reports that a silver Honda Civic had left the eastbound roadway near the Solano Way exit and rolled down an embankment, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said. The car came to a rest at the bottom of the hill, near the WestWind Solano Drive-In movie theater.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and there were no other people in the car, Simmons said. While the cause of the crash was not immediately determined, Simmons said alcohol appeared to be a likely factor.
