We know that low-income students are disproportionately affected by it and that it contributes substantially to the achievement gap. Reading and math are fundamental! ALearn has served more than 6,000 low-income and first-generation kids since 2007. We invite more entering sixth-, seventh- and ninth-graders to join our intensive common core math and college readiness classes in 11 districts. The results are astounding.

In response to Karen D'Souza's June 11 story, "San Jose Rep shuts down, files for bankruptcy":

As a subscriber for many years, I can tell you that in my opinion, the company had to close down because artistic director Rick Lombardo (and staff) had done such a poor job of picking the season. The acting was never an issue. It was the actual choice of material and sometimes the productions.
