SAN JOSE -- A man hit by a car on Capitol Expressway while he was walking home on Father's Day has died, his family said Tuesday.
Richard "Steve" Yanis, 51, succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning after doctors declared him brain-dead, said his sister, Maria Yanis.
"I know I said the person who did this is a coward," she said. "Now I say he is a murderer."
Richard Yanis suffered extensive injuries when he was hit June 15 around 9 p.m. on Capitol Expressway near Silver Creek Road by a still-unidentified driver in a black SUV, according to police. No arrests have been made in the hit-and-run collision, and police have not released any further information.
Despite his injuries, Maria Yanis said her brother was able to donate several organs, including his heart and liver.
"He was generous until the end," she said.
Services for Richard Yanis are set for 11 a.m. July 9 at Lima Campagna Alameda Mission Chapel, located at 600 Second Street in San Jose.
