CLAYTON -- A woman being evicted from her home was arrested after she barricaded herself and three children inside and refused to come out Wednesday morning.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff's civil unit arrived at a home in the 1000 block of Pebble Beach Drive to evict the family at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman refused to open the door and barricaded herself and her children, ages 14, 10 and 8, inside the residence, said Jimmy Lee, a Sheriff's Office spokesman.

A standoff ensued during which negotiators repeatedly tried to get the woman to come out of her home. After the woman did not respond, deputies forced their way inside and took the woman into custody.

No one was injured during the incident. It was not immediately who took custody of the children or what charges the woman might face.An eviction usually takes months and is ordered by a court and carried out by the Sheriff's Office, which has no say in the matter, Lee said.

"An eviction is an unfortunate situation, but the tenants usually know well ahead what is taking place," he said.
