Former Cal forward Richard Solomon signed to play for the Houston Rockets in the NBA Orlando (Florida) Pro Summer League, the team announced Wednesday.

Solomon, who went undrafted, led the Pac-12 in rebounding last season at 10.2 a game while also contributing 11.0 points a game for the Bears. He was just one of three players from the six power conferences to average a double-double.

The Rockets open their summer league schedule Saturday against Detroit.

Also, Orlando signed San Jose native Aaron Gordon, the fourth overall pick in the NBA draft. The team also signed 10th overall pick Elfrid Payton, a point guard from Louisiana-Lafayette. Terms weren't disclosed.

Both first-round picks will participate in the Orlando summer league. The Magic hopes Gordon, the Pac-12 freshman of the year last season at Arizona, can fortify a front court that is thinner after the trade of Arron Afflalo.

  • Campolindo High's Tyler Petite, rated as a four-star tight end (out of five) by numerous recruiting services, orally committed to Duke over USC.

  • Former NFL players Matt Gutierrez and Demetrius Williams are part of De La Salle's 2014 athletic hall of fame class. The new inductees also include Rob Lambert, Greg Brown-Davis, Joe See, John Wilhelmy, the 1985 football team and the 1996 soccer team. Sean Farnham will also be honored at the Oct. 26 ceremony as the school's Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.
