ANTIOCH -- Special Haven, along with local Girl Scouts, will host a free handstamp painting day for special-needs children and their families from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

During the event, Girl Scouts from Antioch Troop 31066 will help children decorate the wall outside the multisensory room with their handprints using colors from the center's logo. The Scouts are doing the community service project to help earn their Silver Award.

Refreshments will be served and children will also have the opportunity to visit the nonprofit's multisensory room, the only facility of its kind in Contra Costa County. The room is designed to block out noise, control space, temperature and lighting, all of which have shown to help with autism, brain injury, challenging behaviors, developmental disabilities, mental illness and more.

Special Haven is at 215 G St. For more information, call 925-222-5322 or 925-522-8921.
