WALNUT CREEK -- Police have arrested three people for selling cocaine in and around a popular downtown Walnut Creek bar, part of an ongoing investigation aimed at cracking down on drug trafficking in the area.
The arrests netted nearly 1 pound of cocaine along with concentrated marijuana, with most of the illegal activity occurring in and around Lift Lounge & Grill, according to a Walnut Creek police statement. The statement did not implicate the bar's owners or employees in the drug operation.
A person who identified himself as the manager at the Lift Lounge said he was not aware of the arrests and declined further comment.
Brittany Borgognone, 25, of Walnut Creek, and Hector Rodriguez, 44, of Martinez, were arrested earlier this month. A third suspect, Benyam Yohannes, 24, of Walnut Creek, was arrested earlier this year. Police say the suspects conducted drug sales inside the club, located on Locust Street, in the nearby parking lot and in other locations in the downtown area. Other drugs were recovered during search warrants in unincorporated Walnut Creek and Martinez.
Prosecutors have charged Yohannes with possession of cocaine for sale and transportation of cocaine for sale. Borgognone and Rodriguez were booked at Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez and have since been released.
Police said they expect to make additional arrests in the coming weeks as police target other downtown restaurants and bars in an effort to root out illegal activity in the area.
