Andrew Ramsey and Michelle May, who graduated from College Park High School in Pleasant Hill this spring, are the winners of this year's Block-Harris Tikkun Olam Scholarship, presented by former Mayor Michael Harris and Dawn Block, who established the award in 2003.
The students were each recognized with the $1,000 scholarship for making the world a better place, their demonstration of the true spirit of Tikkun Olam ("repairing the world" in Hebrew), and academic achievements.
Ramsey is an Eagle Scout, represented College Park at Boys State and was nominated for the county's Student Humanitarian of the Year Award. He will be studying engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
May has been a class officer, part of the Link Crew helping new students, and active in the Jewish Federation, including its Teen Advocacy Program. She will be studying political science at UC Santa Barbara.
