Contra Costa County is partnering with community organizations to help moms and babies nurse during the 22nd annual World Breastfeeding Week celebration, which starts Friday and runs through Aug. 7.

Events, sponsored by the county Health Services Department, are as follows:

  • Antioch, 9 a.m. -- 3 p.m. Saturday: Contra Costa County Community Baby Shower, Grace Bible Fellowship of Antioch, 3415 Oakley Rd. The event, geared to moms and families, will focus on overcoming health disparities affecting African-Americans and will include free food, workshops, access to health resources and fun prizes.   • Martinez, 10 a.m. -- 2 p.m. Monday: Breast Milk Express, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, main lobby, 2500 Alhambra Ave. Experts will be on hand with resources to support breast-feeding, from prenatal help to postpartum outpatient services.

  • Martinez, 10 a.m. -- 2 p.m. Tuesday The Breast Milk Express will be back in the main lobby of the medical center, while the Contra Costa Women Infants and Children (WIC) program will host a Lactation Station at the Farmers' Market in the medical center parking lot, with lactation supplies and experts who will offer hands-on advice and a quiet spot to nurse.   • Concord and Brentwood, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday: The Contra Costa WIC program will host afternoon celebrations featuring education and referrals, nutrition information and games for breast-feeding moms and WIC participants, while the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties will offer free produce, at the following county health clinic sites: 2355 Stanwell Circle, Concord; and 71 Sand Creek Road, Suite A, Brentwood.

  • Pittsburg and Richmond, 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday: The WIC program and the food bank will host similar celebrations as Wednesday's at the following county health clinic sites: 2311 Loveridge Road, Pittsburg; 100 38th Street, Richmond.
