MARTINEZ -- All lanes on southbound I-680 near Martinez re-opened at 5:15 p.m., after a burned out big-rig vehicle carrier was cleared away, the CHP reports.
The CHP issued it highway lane closure alert at 2:44 p.m. Monday for southbound Interstate 680 after a the auto transporter caught fire near the Pacheco Boulevard exit in Martinez, according to dispatch.
There were no injuries and the fire was put out before 3 p.m., said CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett. But the lanes were closed for hours, snarling holiday traffic all the way onto the Benicia bridge, he said.
