KERN COUNTY — A 12-year-old Fremont girl was killed Sunday night when the minivan in which she was riding rolled over on Interstate 5 near Buttonwillow, authorities said.
Hannah Glenn Welker was identified Monday afternoon by the Kern County Coroner's Office as the girl who died from multiple blunt injuries in the 7:50 p.m. crash, a spokesman said.
Two other people in the car, a 40-year-old female driver and a 16-year-old female passenger, both of Fremont, suffered moderate injuries and were recovering Monday at a Kern County hospital, the CHP said.
It was unclear Monday what relation, if any, there was among the three crash victims, Officer Justin Olson said.
The two girls and woman were riding in a 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan headed north on I-5 near the Stockdale Highway in Kern County when the driver lost control of the vehicle, according to the CHP. The minivan, which was traveling at least 75 mph, hit the median, rolled over and landed on its roof, authorities said.
All three victims were wearing their seat belts.
The driver has not been arrested or cited, but Olson said Monday that the case was under investigation.
