Font ResizeQuarterback Brandyn Eckhart threw for 234 yards and two score and added a third score on the ground as the host Chabot College football team clinched at least a share of the Golden Gate Conference title with a 45-19 win over West Hills-Coalinga on Saturday.
Chabot can win the conference title outright with a win at Reedley next week -- a loss would create a three-way tie with Reedley and Laney.
Eckhart, who was 23 for 28 on the night, hit seven different receivers as Chabot had three players with five receptions each. Seven fumbles (three lost) almost did the Gladiators in, but the defense came away with three interceptions.
Chabot (5-4, 3-0 GGC) jumped out to a 16-6 first quarter lead as Leo Migo recovered a fumble in the end zone for the Gladiators three minutes into the contest and Eckhart scored on a 31-yard run later in the quarter. The Falcons (2-7, 0-3) pulled within 23-19 on a pair of touchdowns by Cameron Boyd.
The Gladiators put the game away in the second half on touchdown runs by Asanti McCrae and Ryan Texeira. Brandon Wynne hauled in five passes for 61 yards and a touchdown for Chabot.
Los Medanos 42, Yuba 37: Terrance Polk caught three touchdown passes as the Mustangs held off Yuba to remain in second place in the Bay Valley Conference. Los Medanos and Mendocino are one game behind Contra Costa, which clinched a share of the conference title with a 20-19 win over Redwoods on Saturday.
Polk's third touchdown, a 48-yard catch from Michael Behr, gave Los Medanos a 35-13 lead early in the third quarter. Behr later added a 9-yard touchdown run as the Mustangs went ahead 42-20 with 1:50 left in the third quarter.
Yuba stormed back with 17 unanswered points, and cut the LMC lead to 42-27 with 5:39 to play. But the Mustangs were able to hold on from there.

Laney 37, Reedley 20: Quarterback Charles Cobbs threw two touchdown passes and scored on a weaving 56-yard run to lead the host Eagles (4-5, 3-1) to a victory over the Tigers (3-6, 2-2) on Friday.
Cobbs threw a 4-yard scoring pass to Saro Niuatoa in the third quarter and then scrambled for another score with 6:15 remaining in the period on a run in which he broke at least four tackles on what started out as a simple pass play.
Running back Tony Parnell scored on a 4-yard run with 2:41 left in the third to increase the Laney lead to 37-7.
The Eagles grabbed a 16-7 halftime lead with two scores in the second quarter. Cobbs threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Aaron George with 5:23 left in the period and Edgar Pulido capped the scoring with a 36-yard field goal with 1:12 left.
Laney took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter when quarterback Adam Robinson threw a 40-yard TD pass to Xavier Milton with 10:10 left.

Diablo Valley 38, Sacramento 15: Quinn Kaehler, who leads the state in passing yards per game, threw for three touchdowns and 334 yards as the Vikings won for the fifth time in six games.
"This is what he (Kaehler) does, Quinn stays focused, he's an extension of our coaching staff on the field," DVC coach Mike Darr said.
Diablo Valley had a 14-3 halftime lead. Kaehler connected with receiver Andre Lewis for a 17-yard score and early in the second quarter, Kaehler found running back CJ Best cutting across the middle for a 14-yard touchdown.
The Vikings defense held Sacramento quarterback Ronald Beverly to 216 yards, roughly 60 yards below his season average. The Panthers, though, ran the ball 31 times as Lanier Logan had 146 yards.
"It was nice to walk away with a win tonight. They where tough," Darr said.
