SAN LEANDRO -- A man found by police in his SUV Monday night unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to an area hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Neither the man's condition nor his identity was released.

No suspects were apprehended and there was no known motive, said San Leandro Police Lt. Rick DeCosta.

San Leandro police responding to an emergency call at 7:52 p.m. discovered a man in his 60s seated inside his white SUV that was stopped in the 200 block of West Broadmoor Blvd. The driver's side door window was shattered and the man, seated in the driver's seat, had a gunshot wound to his upper torso.

Officers then searched the area for any witnesses or evidence, and remained on scene early in the morning.

DeCosta said his department's Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to investigate the shooting.

"Whether or not this was a random act of violence is unknown at this time," DeCosta said.
