Just one Nick's: If you thought it was hard to get into Nick's Next Door before, just wait. Starting Thursday, Nick Difu will consolidate his two Los Gatos restaurants into one location. The decision came down to the inability to renegotiate the lease for his first restaurant, Difu explained to customers in a heartfelt full-page ad in the Los Gatos Weekly. "When I originally opened up Nick's on Main back in March of 2008," he wrote, "it was undoubtedly the fulfillment of my lifelong dream of owning and running my own restaurant. ... And that is why I cannot express in mere words how emotionally distressing this decision is for me."
Difu pledged to retain the majority of his old staff
Bay Area launchpad: The Westin Hotels & Resorts are rolling out a new restaurant concept for North America, with the food-centric Bay Area chosen for the first location. Grill & Vine at the Westin San Francisco Airport in Millbrae features a tavern-style menu developed with the help of executive chef Werner Fankhauser. Look for pulled pork on brioche, deviled eggs, sweet potato bisque, plus a number of ultra-healthy options such as steel-cut Irish oats
Expansion mode: After more than three years of success in Santa Clara, Jang Su Jang is now serving bulgogi, galbi, soft tofu and other Korean favorites at a second location, in Milpitas. Lunchbox specials are available here on weekdays, too. Details: Open daily for lunch and dinner (closed from 3-5 p.m.) at 269 W. Calaveras Blvd., Milpitas. 408-262-3434; www.jangsujang.com.
