DUBLIN -- The second-seeded Dublin High boys basketball team had far too much firepower for Mt. Eden on Wednesday night, beating the Monarchs 85-53 in a North Coast Section Division II semifinal.

The Gaels (24-5) advance to the championship game where they will face top-seeded Newark Memorial on Friday at Washington at 7 p.m. The Cougars beat Montgomery-Santa Rosa 54-36 in the other semifinal.

Dublin is 0-2 against the Cougars this year, suffering an 86-62 loss in the Gridley Invitational Basketball Tournament on Dec. 8 and a 70-57 nonleague loss on Dec. 22.

The first loss came on the heels of an overtime loss against Bullard the night before and in the second matchup, starter and Utah State-bound JoJo McGlaston was ejected in the third quarter.

"We've seen them and we know what to expect," Dublin coach Tom Costello said.

Dublin, which has scored 88 and 86 points in its first two NCS wins, was paced by point guard Cameron Moses, who scored 25 points. Teammate Jamir Andrews added 21 and hit a trio of 3-pointers. McGlaston scored 10 points. In all, nine players got into the scoring column.

"Everyone on this team can score in a variety of ways," Andrews said.

The host Gaels, which outscored Mt. Eden 23-9 in the second quarter, had a 40-28 lead at the half. This came after Mt. Eden (19-10) ended the first quarter with a 19-17 lead.

"Even though we down early I wasn't worried because I liked the tempo," Costello said.

Dublin blew the game open with a 31-point fourth quarter that included a stretch where it went on a 10-0 run to take a commanding 68-44 lead with just over four minutes left.

Mt. Eden's Stevinair Young scored 12 points and Noel Briones added 10.
