The CW wants more "Veronica Mars." Sort of.
Network president Mark Pedowitz revealed at the TV critics press tour on Wednesday that he's enlisted creator Rob Thomas to work on a digital spin-off of the popular teen detective series that aired on the UPN and The CW. The spin-off would be for the CW's digital offshoot, CWseed.com.
Pedowitz admitted that buzz surrounding the forthcoming "Veronica Mars" movie fueled the idea. But talks are still in the very early stages, he said, so Thomas has a germ of an idea, but "hasn't committed to any concept or characters yet."
With Thomas busy with the movie, Pedowtiz said, the spin-off probably would not happen before the film hits the big screen.
"I told him we'll take whenever you're ready," Pedowitz said.
In other highlights from The CW executive session:
"Barber Battle," hosted by Cedric, will have hairstylists and barbers competing to be named the creator of the best "crowns" in town.
"Penn & Teller: Fool Us" will give aspiring magicians the chance to perform their best trick to try to fool the veteran illusionists. Those who succeed will get the chance to perform with Penn and Teller in their Las Vegas show.
"As long as I'm here and those (ratings) hold up, God bless them," he said. "They can go as long as they want."
