DUBLIN -- It took a 23-point fourth quarter and a game-winning three-pointer, but Moreau Catholic High defeated Salesian 73-68 to win the North Coast Section Division IV boys basketball championship Saturday night at Dublin High School.
Brandon Lawrence, who scored a game-high 21 points including the clincher, led the Mariners.
Moreau Catholic had a 66-65 lead when Salesian's Bernard Ward hit a 3-pointer with 46.7 seconds left off a broken inbounds play to give the Pride a 68-66 edge.
On the next possession, Lawrence hit his fourth 3-pointer of the game from the left corner with just more than 30 seconds remaining to give the Mariners a 69-68 lead.
Salesian turned the ball over on the next possession and all that was left was a series of fouls and free throws, of which Moreau Catholic made all.
Damari Milstead had 19 points for the Mariners and Oscar Frayer added 12 of his own.
Jonathan Galloway led Salesian with 15 points and made his impact defensively with eight blocks.
Down 59-50, the Mariners made a key run in the fourth quarter when Galloway went to the bench. Moreau Catholic got it to a one-point deficit, 63-62 with 5:14 left when Galloway returned to the game.
The rest of the game went back and forth before the Mariners pulled away at the end.
For Salesian, Marquel Johnson had 11 points and Nokata Shepard-Creer had 11 points, nine of which came off three-pointers. Ward finished with 13 points.
