CASTRO VALLEY -- A 16-year-old boy was badly injured Friday morning when he was hit by a pickup truck while lying on Lake Chabot Road, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident, said it wasn't known why the youth was lying in the roadway. The boy's name was not released but the CHP said he is a Castro Valley resident. He was in critical condition at Eden Medical Center.
The CHP said the incident happened about 2:55 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Lake Chabot Road south of Barlow Drive not far from the medical center. A Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck going about 35 mph ran over the youth, authorities said.
The truck driver, a Castro Valley resident, stopped, remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, the CHP said. His name was not released.
The CHP said drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the driver hitting the youth.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the CHP at 510-581-9028.
